Well, today, I started out with high hopes to knock out five miles. No particular reason; just felt like a good number. Pup n I took off mid-day, the temp was about 69, I wore the New Balance shoes, bolted on the Garmin, and turned on the music through a set of Shokz.

We were on a good 30/30 pace for the first 1.77 miles, and then the pup stopped. Not like she needed to go potty, like she was done done. She is funny that way. As a lab that tips the scales over 80lbs, when she stops and the leash runs out, I stop. It is why we have a harness for her, her head is no bigger than her neck, and her regular collar slips off pretty easily.

I wasn’t sure what to make of it. Maybe a mid-day run was not her thing. But I let her know we would just walk the rest of the way, and she seemed okay with that. My five-mile run/walk turned into a 1.77-mile run/walk and I got the sense we should probably return making five into three.

What’s odd is that when I look at the metrics, we really didn’t slow down much, if at all. Instead of run/walk, the walk was pretty close. Not sure what to make of it. The 21:25 time mark is where we switch from a run/walk to just walking.

The other big white space toward the end was where the pup needed to go poo. This could be related to why she stopped earlier because it started as a normal poo but turned to a run poo at the end, and she had a hard time finishing. I bagged it and returned home.

Later in the evening, we went out again with the Mrs for a relaxing mile, so that counted toward four on our virtual race, moving us up in rank from the 40’s to the 20’s out of 144 participants.

I did better with the Garmin vibration and still was able to have music on. Still not sure music is my thing, but for some reason, I keep trying.  The Shokz are nice because they are not stuck in my ear, and I can hear the surroundings.

Oh, I switched back to New Balance from the Hukas today because the heel was falling apart.

Oh, and if you were curious, dinner went better tonight, and I am not in the doghouse anymore.
