Ok, it is my second blog entry and my mind has created and deleted several paragraphs so we’ll see what ends up on paper.

The pup, I, and the Mrs went out for a walk/run yesterday afternoon, and I didn’t want to set an expectation that I might publish more than once per day, so I kept it to myself. Since I had more time to prepare, knowing it might be a longer and more consistent pace, I charged up the Garmin and tracked my time. We ended up clocking 2.19M for 32:30 with a 14:48 pace. Hey, I was taught that if you do anything that elevates your heart rate for more than 20 minutes, it counts as exercise, which in turn helps keep the body in motion and lubricated.

Granted, the Mrs had set a goal for herself to go 3M and was disappointed on her first training run of the season; she stopped at 2M. Yes, she beats herself up, and I am there to flip the coin and try to convince her that it was an excellent first step. You didn’t start running marathons on the first try, well, it is not recommended, and I can speak from first-hand experience about what happens when you push stubbornly over training. The finish, at least for me, came, but the fun was lost in the realization of the pain I felt, but hey, I got the medal.

I poked around with ideas about what the tagline for this blog should be when I was trying to figure out what I thought the logo might look like. I want to be clear, this is just me rambling at this point until I get a cadence and see a path forward. At the same time, this is not about running as much as it is about starting. To that point, I signed up for a Noom trial and the pup and I are committed to running 150M before the end of the year in a virtual race. Both of those, like this blog, were a start.

The funny thing yesterday is that I saw a coach of ours quietly started running at least a mile every day. He has been pretty quiet, but on Facebook yesterday he posted that for the last 41 days, he has gone out for at least a mile run. Odd timing eh? We’ll see if the pup n I can get there. Then again, the coach had a professional running career to build on, me, I’ve not looked at running with any dedication or focus (to be honest.) It just happens to be something I can do relatively easily. Oh, and to be clear, we don’t run run on any of these. We walk or we run/walk, usually with a 30/30 ratio. More on that later, or you can read from Jeff Galloway on his benefits of the run/walk method.

The Mrs also said she wanted to commit to going out for a mile a day. She did this before and lasted over a year, so I know there is a real possibility if I parallel the coach and the Mrs, I can do this too. I am pretty sure I can do this longer than the Noom thing. I’m not sure how that will turn out, so I put a reminder on the calendar to turn it off in a couple of weeks so they don’t charge me. I am more motivated by the people around me than an app on my phone, which by the way I am not too impressed with.

Ok, so today we took the pup to the dog park and strolled around for 1.47M for 33M, according to my watch. No running mandated, we are putting in at least a mile a day, and did I tell you we signed up for a virtual race, so every mile counts.

I sent the blog link to my reader, but she didn’t give me any feedback, so we’ll see how that goes. I don’t wanna push her to read this, but I had hoped she might be curious. She starts school tomorrow and is still sleeping in on her last day of summer. Like most things I started, only time will tell if they last.

But that is where I will tie this off for today. Thank you for reading.
